Hanukkah is almost here! We’ll soon be lighting menorahs, eating latkes, and spinning dreidels.
The Sew Jewish book includes instructions for making dreidel game party favors, little pouches to fill with a dreidel and pieces of sweet chocolate gelt. The book even includes printable dreidel game instructions to tuck into the pouches (versions for both outside and inside Israel). The pouches stand up straight, so they look great displayed on a side table or tray before you hand them out to guests.
In fact, when grouped together, a tray of the standing party favors suggests a plate of holiday hors d’oeurves, specifically those pouches of filled and twisted phyllo dough purses. If you’re having a Hanukkah cocktail party, have some fun and hand out these dreidel game favors to your guests on a tray as if they’re one of the passed hors d’oeurves. And offer a tray of real, edible phyllo purse hors d’oeurves, too.
Teri Lyn Fisher and Jenny Park have a phyllo purse recipe that’s great for holiday parties: Sweet Potato Pecan and Goat Cheese Bites. It’s from their website, Spoon Fork Bacon, but there’s no bacon in it, and in fact, all the ingredients are kosher. Thanks, Teri Lyn and Jenny. You can see a photo of the savory bites in the pin below, and find the recipe on SpoonForkBacon.com.
