Sew Jewish Words: Sewing Words Edition

A glossary.

baste – Sew using long stitches. A useful technique to quickly attach pieces of fabric together or to trace a line, especially when the stitches later need to be removed.

right side of fabric: The top side of the fabric. The side that in most cases you want to show in the finished project.

walk: Use your sewing machine’s manual control to move the needle up and down rather than pressing the foot pedal. The slow pace gives you more control over the stitches and the movement of your material.

wrong side of fabric: The underside of the fabric. The side that in most cases you don’t want to show.
