The pomegranate has inspired Jewish artisans for centuries, since the day God inspired Betzalel to embroider pomegranates on the hem of the High Priest’s robes. Drawn by their beauty and symbolism, today we add them to all kinds of projects from ritual items to holiday decorations and home decor.

This collection of five applique patterns includes two pomegranate fruits and two flowers, as well as a pomegranate leaf. Apply the appliques to your projects individually to add a colorful accent, or use them in combination to create borders or natural scenes, and the amazing idea you have in mind. 

The patterns are suitable for use with quilting fabrics, Dupioni silks, or other fabrics you like to use for applique, so you can create original designs with styles that range from cozy to refined.

The collection includes five applique patterns.

The fruit and flower patterns include markings to add optional embroidered accents. For the samples here I’ve embroidered them with French knots, but you can use another stitch that you prefer.

The pomegranate blossom includes two variations: one with an embroidered center and one with an appliqued center.

Pattern sizes

• Pomegranate: 3 ⅛” high (with embroidery 3 ⅜”)
• Young pomegranate fruit: 2” high (with embroidery 2 1/4”)
• Pomegranate blossom: 2 ¼” high 
• Blossom side view: 2” high (with embroidery 2 1/4”)
• Leaf: 2 ⅛” long

The sizes can be adjusted somewhat by changing the settings on your printer, especially if you want to enlarge the patterns. Because of the smaller details such as the crown of the pomegranate and the curves in the blossoms, I don’t recommend making the appliques significantly smaller.
