Last Sunday I challenged myself to drive to my local craft supply emporium and find as many items as I could that can be turned into fun, personal gifts just by adding an appliqued Hebrew monogram or Hebrew word. It was a hunt for gift-giving inspirations. And I brought along some pre-made appliques from the Hebrew Letter Pattern Set to help visualize how simple items can be lifted into personalized treasures by simply adding a monogram.
Come along on the adventure with me. Here’s a field guide to what I found and what you might be able to find in your local craft store:
Tote bag
I have additional thoughts on how to add a Hebrew monogram to a tote bag.

Small tote
This little tote one is for organizing craft supplies.

T-shirt
Lots of colors to choose from. Therm-o-web has great instructions for adding appliques to t-shirts on their website.

Hoodie
Lots of color choices, but you can’t go wrong with a gray hoodie.

Baseball cap
Given the middle seam in the cap, for this project I’d go with a fabric that doesn’t fray, like a light-weight vinyl or faux leather, and go with simple straight stitches to attach the applique.

Bucket hat
For this one, frayed edges on the applique could look really cool.

Kitchen towel
“Shalom!” A kitchen towel gives you space to add a whole word.

Little organizing crate
Ok, so this isn’t a sewing project so much as a paint stenciling project, but it’s so cute and seems super practical I have to include it.

Still on the hunt
I’m going to give myself half credit for items I hoped to find but did not spot on this expedition:
- Baby onesie
- Baby bid
- Baby blanket
- Throw blanket
- Napkins
- Pennant banner
- Garden flag
The hunt continues!
If today’s adventure sparked ideas, the Hebrew Letter Pattern Set is ready in the Sew Jewish Etsy shop to help you turn store finds into personalized treasures.
