Making a tallit can give you a great sense of accomplishment, but making a tallit for a doll is downright fun.

One of my projects for the year was to release a pattern for a doll size tallit to go with the doll kippah pattern released last year. 

Alas, I didn’t manage to create that pattern, and I don’t expect I’ll be able to get it done in time for Hanukkah gift crafting, so I decided that something I could do for Sew Jewish readers is make available the mini atarah I use to create custom doll tallits.

They are sized especially for prayer shawls made for American Girl dolls and other 18″ dolls.

The atarah is the strip of fabric that sits at the center of the top edge of a tallit. It’s the collar or neck piece that marks the top of the tallit and serves as a decorative element for the prayer shawl.

I designed these little atarahs to look just like a full-size version, with the blessing recited when putting on a tallit and little pomegranates at the ends. 

If you are thinking of creating a doll tallit and start with a simple rectangle of fabric, adding this atarah will go a long way to lifting it up to become a detailed tallit.

The fabric is cotton sateen so it has a subtle sheen. 

The design is available in two color varieties: silver gray and blue.
